Finally some progress!

It's been a bit of a wait for some progress on the house. We signed off on the final plans six odd weeks ago and just last week they drilled and did the piering.

Lets hope they manage to get the slab down before Christmas, but I won't be holding my breath.

Final plans signed!

I have just been to the Post Office to send back the signed copies of our final plans for construction.

Looking forward to seeing some progress on our bare looking block very soon!

Going, going, gone!

It only took a day for the whole house to be cleaned up  Unfortunately, our two beautiful cherry trees went with it.

Can't wait for the building to begin!

Action station

A Komatsu PC220 was in our front yard as I cruised by this morning. And a truck and dog parked across the street. I think the house will be flattened today!

The Construction Site

Our place has officially become a construction zone. A fence has been erected and work has begun to remove the remains of our first home.

In other news, we have survived almost three weeks of living with my parents. They have embarked on a nine week SKI (spending kids inheritance) trip to Europe and South America, so my husband, daughter and I will have the place to ourselves. I will be partying as much as any woman in her third trimester of pregnancy looking after an almost 2 year old can do - which needless to say is not a lot.

Moving day

The weekend's efforts were epic. Five trailer loads of goodness knows what were hauled over to my parents place (in addition to three or four earlier loads). About one third is in our temporary digs and the rest is stored away.

It seems no matter how organised we try to be when we move, we are always left with a load of tidbits that have missed their box or don't have a 'place'. My wonderful husband dealt with it all, spending three hours by himself to clear up the last of our junk prized possessions.

My husband and father are my heroes. I can't thank them enough. And my little girl has taken the move in her stride, sleeping soundly in her new surrounds.

Now we have eight or so months to contemplate the move back!

The last night

Tonight we end our time in our little green house the way we began: with very little furniture, lots of boxes and pizza.

I've moved lots of times in my life, but only two moves have been from places that hold my happiest of happy memories: my childhood home where I spent the first thirteen or so years of my life - the only house my whole family lived together before my older siblings moved out; and this little green house where I have spent such happy years starting our family.

We leave this house as 3 (and an over exuberant dog) and will hopefully return as 4 to make a brand new set of memories in a brand new house.

And hopefully we won't be moving again for a very long time!

Bye bye house

This is our house. It will be demolished within the month.

My husband and I bought this house almost four years ago. It is our first home, where we spent our first years as a married couple, where we spent the first (almost) two years with our first child. It is a place of many special memories.

But it also contains asbestos, too few rooms and lots of other quirks (faults) that mean it's time to move on.

In about two weeks time my husband, daughter and I will be moving home with my parents. I haven't lived with my parents full time for about seventeen years, and needless to say my husband has never lived with them so it's sure to be an interesting experience.

And so starts my new blog - Rebuilding the Roost.

Here I will try to document the trials and tribulations of moving in with the parents, having a second child and building our new home.

Let the fun begin!
